Don's '68 GR-350 Coupe
This is Don's personal '68 coupe. It started as a plain maroon 289 with dog dish hubcaps. We found it at a friends house (it was a project that never got going), looked it over and brought it home. The condition was rust free but interior completely worn out and coated with tobacco residue and dog hair. The engine was blowing oil out of the breathers and the suspension was shot. The transmission was ok... We started by installing a 5.0 from a '91 Mustang (after modifiying it to use a carburetor), added Doug Thorley Tri-y headers, Mustangs Plus Grabatrak front and rear suspension, all new upholstery, new fuel tank, new 16"X 8" Vintage 45 wheels, Bridgestone RE-71 tires, Baer front PBR brakes, JME Phantom gauge panel (easily the coolest addition to this car so far), and a general cleanup and rebuild to all interior and exterior components. The car was painted 2000 Jaguar dark blue and had steel fender flares added by Consola Fabrication of San Carlos CA. These pictures show the car as it looked at Griggs Racing (with John Griggs mugging for the camera- and next to the GR-350 prototype '70 Mach 1) to the delivery in North Carolina where my able assistant Chris Mendez finished assembly. The coupe is now in Richmond, VA. Update: The car is FINISHED! It currently is sporting silver Saleen Heritage Mustang wheels all around with 275-35-18 tires in front and rear. Recent pictures show me driving the car at the SVT owners' event at Virginia International Raceway May 30-June 1. It works great, just ask the guys driving the GT-500s and the '03/'04 Cobras! Later pictures are from Summit point (in the rain!). Currently the car has silver wheels and reflective "C" stripes.
